Today a complex range of diverse threats against which every organisation using Information Technology must continually be on their guard. Not all of these threats apply to a typical mainframe installation which today tends to be used primarily as a data-warehouse for Internet or client-server based applications. The accuracy and reliability of the data held and the systems supporting this data are critical to the applications accessing the data from other platforms. Cronos Consulting specialises in the evaluation of the protection of these back-end repositories and the security of the connections from the other systems.

Assignment Locations

Most assignments are within Europe, however as appropriate work will be undertaken anywhere subject to limitations of the companies insurance policy and British Home Office travel advice.
 

To date assignments have been carried out in the following countries (in alphabetical order):

Due to confidentiality requirements Cronos Consulting never identifies it’s clients; market segments represented by these clients include:

‘Big 4’ Audit Companies, Commercial Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, National Banks, Pension Companies, Petrochemical, Software Vendors, Training Companies and UK Local Authorities.

Confidentiality

All services provided are completely confidential to the client. No information relating to any services provided  will be made available to any third party, nor will the identity of clients ever be disclosed without prior  permission. When a security review is carried out details will be disclosed to and discussed with only those client  employees directly involved in the review. Copies of written reports will only be supplied to the primary client contact.

Charges

We believe our charges to be competitive within our market, we know that our fees for security and integrity reviews are a significantly lower than those charged by our main competitors.

Charges can be calculated on an hourly, daily or weekly basis depending on circumstances and the clients  requirements. A 10% discount is offered to clients requiring a minimum of three weeks (15 days) work within a six month period. A written quotation will be provided on request without obligation for any service according  to individual requirements. Quotations can be ‘fee plus costs’ or fully inclusive as required.

Availability

Within Europe all of the indicated services can normally be provided at approximately six weeks notice,  shorter assignments can often be arranged more quickly.
Assignments outside Europe will typically  require more advance planning due to possible requirements for visa’s etc.

On a lighter note :

Cronos, also spelled Cronus, or Kronos

From ancient Greek religion, a male deity (godlike figure) worshipped  in pre-Hellenic Greece.  Cronos' functions were connected with agriculture, in particular the festival celebrating the harvest. Possibly due to this connection artistically he was usually depicted as an elderly man holding what was probably a sickle or scythe.

In Greek mythology Cronos was the son of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (Earth), being the youngest of the twelve Titans. He became the king of the Titans but was eventually forcefully displaced by his own son Zeus who later ruled the Olympians from Mount Olympus.

In slightly later times the Romans identified Cronos with their own god Saturn.  He is also often associated with the passage of time, becoming the modern ‘Old Father Time’. The name is the original root for words such as chronometer and chronology, and leads to ‘cron’ for timing functions in the UNIX operating system today.
